J Noa buzzes with energy. Standing cara a cara with the 17-year-old Dominican rapper, it is clear that spinning life experiences into buttery clean, placing bars is as pure for her as it’s for many of us to take a breath.
This Tiny Desk live performance was her first time ever leaving her barrio to carry out, and but she transmitted the arrogance and charisma of an artist who invokes generations of fuerza into each phrase she breathes. Setting the tone with “No Me Puedan Parar,” she introduced fascinating vitality to the cool anthem. Switching to “Autodidacta,” she backed her self-taught narrative with mind-blowing verbal sprints. Gliding by way of the jazz-backed “Paranoia” to story-driven “Betty,” her supply was so highly effective that even the tales she instructed in between tracks felt like rigorously positioned poetry.
