Earlier this month, pilots at American Airways voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike. They cited pay and scheduling as main points going through the trade, the sort of quality-of-life issues that make the job undesirable to new faces. It appears the pilots over at American had been proper, as a result of their counterparts at Southwest have now signed the same strike pledge—and United might not be far behind.

Southwest’s strike vote handed by a good larger margin than American’s, extremely. A whopping 98 p.c of pilots participated within the vote, and 99 p.c of these contributors voted to stroll out. Union president Casey Murray, in a assertion concerning the strike vote, stated “The shortage of management and the unwillingness to handle the failures of our group have led us thus far. Our pilots are uninterested in apologizing to our passengers on behalf of an organization that refuses to put its priorities on its inner and exterior prospects.”

United Airways could also be subsequent, if their negotiations and picketing are something to go by. United’s union has been pushing administration to restrict how typically pilots might be referred to as in on their days off, a dialogue that’s apparently so heated as to push funds and salaries into the background.

After all, hanging within the airline world is rarely straightforward. Pilots are certain by related guidelines to railway employees, whose strike push final yr was stifled by the Biden Administration forcing a deal between administration and the unions. That deal didn’t embrace the unions’ desired staffing, sick day, or security concessions, which possible has nothing to do with the string of horrifying derailments and accidents we’ve seen in current months.

It’s unlikely your summer travel plans will be interrupted by a strike, but the pilots’ unions are pushing for them all the same. If it makes our skies safer than our railways, I’m all for it.
